CRESTA Release 2019

Release notes

The CRESTA 2019 release was made available to the public on 21 October 2019. It is based on the 2013 CRESTA Zones and reflects major changes to administrative and postal code units since this release. The 2019 release covers 137 countries and spans 4,901 low-resolution and 242,172 high-resolution CRESTA Zones.

In addition to the updated Zones, the release introduces low-resolution CRESTA Zones for Australia, Canada and New Zealand which were previously undefined. For Australia, the zoning scheme is based on that used by the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA). This 49-zone scheme has been widely used by the market. For New Zealand, 17 Regional Council boundaries form the low-resolution CRESTA Zones. These provide the user with a clear set of accumulation zones to complement the existing granular 4-digit postal codes.

The same principle applies to the new low-resolution scheme for Canada, which is based on a total of 18 first-digit postal code areas.

CRESTA 2019 Release Summary:

  • New low-resolution CRESTA Zones for Australia, Canada and New Zealand
  • Updated CRESTA Zones for 137 countries reflecting changes in postcodes or administrative divisions
  • Mapping tables to assign CRESTA Zones between 2010, 2013 and 2019 releases
  • Mapping tables to assign high-resolution to low-resolution CRESTA Zones
